Basics of Aromatherapy Products

Author: Administrator
Aromatherapy is commonly associated with alternative healing techniques. It is the process of using natural oils as a means to alter a person's mood or health. There are three main branches of aromatherapy. The first is home aromatherapy, which is self-treatment with aromatherapy products. The second is clinical aromatherapy. Clinical aromatherapy is used as a pharmacological treatment in a clinical setting. The third branch is aromachology. Aromachology is the study of odors and their effects on the mind.

Make sure you never put undiluted essential oils directly onto your skin. They need to be diluted first, and it's always a good idea to do a small test on an inconspicuous area of skin, just in case you are sensitive to the products. Many people find it easiest to mix a few drops of the essential oil with a carrier oil, such as avocado oil. This is much easier to apply, and you're less likely to put too much of the essential oil on one area of skin.

Essential oils used in aromatherapy are different in chemical mix from other herbal products. Aromatherapy uses pure, natural, unmodified aromatic essences, (essential oils) and hydrosols (colloidal suspensions) that come from botanical material. These substances can have a broad range of therapeutic effects and actions on the body. Many of us have already used these oils in our normal daily lives. Many toothpastes as well as mouth washes contain these oils, as do many special care products and perfumes.

Lavender: It is only one of the most versatile essential oils in the world today. Lavender has an effect on mind, emotions, and the body. Lavender also contains a high percentage of phenol, a strong antiseptic and antibiotic. Lavender and chamomile can help a person relax. Lavender and lemon are good with wounds, infections and burns.Certain oils, such as Roman chamomile, have antiseptic and wound healing effects as well as anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties making them the ultimate active principles for holistic natural skin care.

In addition to an aromatherapy gift basket that is stocked with aromatherapy candles, you should also be able to find a number of gift baskets that are stocked with health and beauty products, but products that are made with aromatherapy and relaxation in mind. It is not uncommon to find scented lavender body wash or scented lavender bubble bath salts.

There are many ways to create aromatherapy oils. Steam Distillation is used to extract the oil. This process is quick and effective for extracting large amounts of aromatherapy oil in a short amount of time. The use of steam can reduce the potency of some aromatherapy oils. Hydro Distillation involves using water to boil the plant in an effort of extracting the aromatherapy oil. This method is commonly used for hard herbs and plants including nuts, woods, and roots.

When aromatherapy essential oils are inhaled, your brain and respiratory system get invaded by them. When they enter your lungs, molecules of aromatherapy oils attach themselves to oxygen molecules and are carried into your blood stream and circulated to every cell in your body. Within the cells itself, aromatherapy oils can activate the body's ability to heal itself and improve health.
