Nancy did financial work for United Technologies in
Dearborn (now Lear) in the mid 1980's. There, she
began researching tanning beds with a dream of
eventually opening her own business. Later she
provided financial help - and bussed table - at
Dominic's Pizzeria, her parents' Allen Park restaurant,
which is now home to City Coffee House on Allen Road.
Nancy recalls receiving a gift certificate to
Bloomingdale's and thought it would great to have a full
service salon at downriver prices. "We all deserve
it here," she says matter-of-factly.
The building that is now the Sun Deck housed a couple
different businesses that did not prosper as well,
including a video store. When the building became
available in 1986 Nancy saw the opportunity to launch
her new business... and the rest, as they say, is
history. In fact, they were the first tanning
salon downriver and only the third in the state.
