The story began in Malta in 1936 where Anthony's father
was a barber. He operated his barber shop, the
American Salon, in his living room. In 1969, to
honor his father, Tony opened American Salon for Men and
Women in Dearborn with his brother George - who now owns
George Paul Salon.
In 1972, Tony's brother Edward
owned Sir Edward's Limited - a seven location hair
salon. Tony helped his brother run them, which
were among the first unisex salons in Michigan.
Tony traveled to London, Paris and New York during
the mid 1970's to train in the newest hairstyles and
techniques by Vidal Sasson and Pierre Alexandre, to name
a couple notables. He eventually opened Anthony's
Hair Salon in the building that is now Park Avenue Perk
on Park Avenue. He lived upstairs, while he
operated the business downstairs with four employees.
